Like raindrop clear,
Like sunshine kind,
Like ocean warm in tropics
In soldier's body,
By wounds and duties toughened,
By death bypassed,
Of metal made yet supple
In mortal flesh,
Immortal lives the spirit,
God's breath absorbed,
And yet so real.
So clear and so real was he,
I couldn't see through
This strange mystery,
And can't see yet.
Forever mystery,
And longing,
And pain,
And hunger for his touch.
